‘Yellowjackets’: Christina Ricci and Samantha Hanratty Discuss Shocking Misty Revelation

Elijah Wood’s character, Walter, has been an entertaining addition to the second season of Yellowjackets.

In the present-day timeline, Walter serves as an excellent counterpart to Christina Ricci’s character, Misty. In the fifth episode, “Two Truths and a Lie,” a crucial revelation is made: teenage Misty, played by Samantha Hanratty, killed her first real friend, Crystal (Nuha Jes Izman), after confessing to destroying the plane’s emergency transmitter.

Hanratty told The Hollywood Reporter that she watched the scene with Izman, as they have become close friends.

Filming the scene was emotional, and Hanratty felt heartbroken for Misty when Crystal turns on her.

This event significantly impacts Misty and her relationships, influencing her hesitation to get close to others, such as Walter in the present-day storyline.

Ricci explains that Misty is innately untrustworthy, and her desires and impulses often harm others.

Reading more about Misty’s past reaffirmed Ricci’s understanding of the character.

Ricci also mentioned her excitement for Walter’s storyline, as Elijah Wood’s involvement in Yellowjackets marks an on-screen reunion with her, following their roles in 1997’s The Ice Storm.

Misty’s ability to repress introspection and move on is a defining characteristic.

While viewers may root for a potential romance between Misty and Walter, her skill at erecting barriers could present obstacles for their relationship.
